Brother Haan [one of the leaders in the secession that created First CRC of Grand Rapids and the Christian Reformed denomination] objects to failure to fully observe the Church Order of Dort and brings up the issue of festival days. Classis addresses a schism in the Graafschap church. Credentials of Rev. R. Smit inspected and approved. Milwaukee congregation petitions to join Classis Holland; classis agrees to accept any congregation from Wisconsin until such time as a classis can be formed in Wisconsin. Rev. Van der Meulen informs classis of a call to organize a congregation in Pella, IA. Rev. [name omitted] suspended for adultery.

Milwaukee (WI) church joyfully affirms union with Classis Holland. Rev. Ver Schuur of Holland (WI) church believes matters too unsettled to effect union at present. Rev. Postema of Zwolle (Netherlands) declines call to minister to pastorless churches of Classis Holland. "Art. 7. In order more closely to observe the church order, it is resolved that henceforth, from each consistory, in addition to the minister, two elders shall be sent to the Classis with credential, and that voting shall be confined to them. Nevertheless, it is considered very desirable that all brethren not delegated shall take part in the meeting." Rev. Van Raalte reports church of South Holland unwilling to reunite with Graafschap congregation. South Holland asks Van Raalte to install a minsiter, but makes "no promise to unite with the Albany denomination." Rev. Ypma proposes calling Rev. Brummelkamp to serve in Classis Holland. J. Van de Luister asks permission to serve pastorless churches, which classis tables.

Classis informed that a congregation has been formed near Chicago, a Junction Station [a.k.a. High Prairie, now Roseland]. The congregation seeks union with Classis Holland, which is granted. An unorganized group at Low Prairie [now South Holland] asks to be brought under the spiritual care of Classis. There is a complaint from Drenthe that Rev. Smit promotes faction and is trying to lead the Drenthe congregation to secede from the Dutch Reformed Church. Classis admonishes Rev. Smit.

Rev. Bolks has accepted a call to Milwaukee and Rev. Ypma to High and Low Prairie. Both are released to Classis Wisconsin. Rev. Klein asks how it might be possible to reunite with the congregations which seceded under the leadership of Rev. Smit and brother Schepers. Rev. Klein urges Classis to take up correspondence with the Afscheider church in the Netherlands.

Elder Haan raises questions aboout open communion at Synod, saying, "Ministers invite [people)] in general, and without distinction of denomination." Rev. Van der Meulen confirms that only those who are of sound confession are admitted to the Lord's Supper. Grand Haven is preparing to receive Rev. P. Oggel as pastor.

Zeeland: Rev. C. Van der Meulen; elders J. Van de Luister, Q. Huizer Grand Rapids reports that discord has arisen between the consistory and elder Haan and deacon Geluk over the method of electing consitory members. Classis votes to uphold the election. Classis is petitioned to organize a congregation at Noordeloos. The Kalamazoo delegation reports the sudden and unexpected death of Rev. Gardenier. Classis establishes policy to support minister's widows. Haan again questions communion practice of the Dutch Reformed Church. "From various sides voices are heard complaining of the church disturbing seed" which Haan is sowing in the churches. Also, objection raised that Haan has been associating with Rev. Smit and other seceders. Haan voices doubt that the Dutch Reformed Church is a true church. To this end, Haan shares a brochure published by the True Dutch Reformed Church attacking the Dutch Reformed Church.

Gijsbert Haan and other members have seceded from the Grand Rapids church. Since Haan has left the church, Classis declares itself unable to discipline him. A complaint against the Dutch Reformed Church is heard from the Graafschap congregation, namely that they use hymns.
